So last semester Spring '11, we had the honor of working with a group of talented people comprised of undergraduate and graduate members on developing a website that was compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for Cambrian Center, a non-profit that provides affordable housing for seniors and adults with disabilities.
We worked with Cambrian Center to fix all these problems that they had with the website with several meetings, and proposals. Weekly team meetings were scheduled that kept everybody on the same page and status updates on where we were in the project for that week. By the end of the semester, we were able to make the website ADA compliant by implementing new features such as:
- navigation menus
- dynamic text re-sizing
- website search powered by Google
- picture slide shows
- site map
Their current website can be viewed HERE.
We showed Cambrian Center the final product before launching
the website officially and they were very pleased with all the new
features/changes.
This project was 10 weeks long and we were actually assigned
to a different project with another company but that backfired which
pushed us back two weeks. So we actually had less time to find
another company that would work with us and finish the project within
the deadline. It's okay though since we finished everything on time! All
in all, this experience has taught me a lot about real world situations
in which you can never tell what is going to happen.
Oh yeah, and before the website was complete we actually had
to showcase and demo what we worked on presented in the following video
along with other groups:
If you skip over to 6:56 then you will see us :). We also have our proposal online as well HERE if you want to check it out.
